As official media partners of Infosecurity Europe, the EM360Tech team attended the event on Tuesday, June 2, 2026, to interview IT leadership from across the cybersecurity industry.
In this vox pop, Shubhangi Dua, Podcast Host and Tech Journalist at EM360Tech, interviews Merlin Gillespie, Director, Cybanetix. He tells Dua that there’s mental fatigue in the industry.
“We’re facing a generic challenge – nobody is entirely sure what the problems are going to look like past three to four months from today.”
He further adds that cybersecurity faces a combination of problems today. There is a lack of certainty regarding future threats, as professionals find it difficult to predict what problems will look like beyond a few months.
Despite the uncertainty, enterprises are collectively navigating these unknowns as they arise.
“There’s not a single thing that security teams are unprepared for. It’s about making the problems that existed over a variable space of time happen at machine speed,” he goes on to say.
However, “the volume of data, whether it's reasoning associated with decisions or the output of attacks generated, I don’t think we’re fully dimensional yet,” he added. “Business plans related to AI right now are typically about cost conservation."
