After being sworn in as the 47th US President, Donald Trump announced on Tuesday [January 21, 2025] a massive investment initiative in artificial intelligence [AI] infrastructure.
President Trump announced a collaboration with OpenAI among other organisations. But this led Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla and SpaceX to “cast doubt,” noted TechXplore.
As part of the US AI Stargate plan, the White House introduced the ‘Stargate’ joint venture between OpenAI, Japan’s SoftBank, Oracle and MGX, “a tech investment arm of the United Arab Emirates government” according to BBC.
Sam Altman, the founder of OpenAI in collaboration with the US tech giant, the Japanese bank and UAE’s sovereign wealth fund, is part of the Stargate joint venture to build $500 billion worth of AI infrastructure in the US.
President Trump hailed Stargate as "the largest AI infrastructure project by far in history."
Elon Musk Versus Sam Altman
Despite the big plans for AI infrastructure development in the US, Musk, the richest person in the world has expressed concerns about the project on Wednesday [January 23, 2025].
Musk said that the money promised for the investment actually wasn't there.
SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority.

The tech giant who spent $270 million on Trump’s election campaign, in a post on X (formerly Twitter) said that the main investors "don't actually have the money."
"SoftBank has well under $10B secured. I have that on good authority," Musk added in a subsequent post.
This tweet was posted on Tuesday after OpenAI’s official announcement on X about The Stargate Project.
To this Altman responded, “Wrong, as you surely know.”
“Want to come visit the first site already underway?” added Altman in his X post.
“This is great for the country. I realise what is great for the country isn't always what's optimal for your companies, but in your new role I hope you'll mostly put first.”

What is The Stargate Project?
The Stargate Project announced earlier this week at the White House by President Donald Trump is a massive investment project catered towards expanding the AI infrastructure in the US.
It’s a $500 billion project focusing on building data centres and generating the necessary power to support advanced AI development, starting in Texas mainly.
OpenAI described The Stargate Project as a new company which intends to invest $500 billion over the next four years in building new AI infrastructure for OpenAI in the United States.
“We will begin deploying $100 billion immediately,” the post added. “This infrastructure will secure American leadership in AI, create hundreds of thousands of American jobs, and generate massive economic benefit for the entire world.”
In addition to supporting the reindustrialisation of the US, The Stargate Project will also “provide a strategic capability to protect the national security of America and its allies.”
OpenAI’s post on X spotlighted the buildout, which is currently underway, starting in Texas, and we are evaluating potential sites across the country for more campuses as we finalise definitive agreements.
“As part of Stargate, Oracle, NVIDIA, and OpenAI will closely collaborate to build and operate this computing system. This builds on a deep collaboration between OpenAI and NVIDIA going back to 2016 and a newer partnership between OpenAI and Oracle,” the official social media announcement added.
The company believes that the development of AI and AGIs particularly is “for the benefit of all of humanity.”
The AI giant says that Stargate is a critical new step that will allow creative people to “figure out how to use AI to elevate humanity.”
