ALPLA is a world leader in the area of packaging solutions, producing high-quality packaging for Coca-Cola, Unilever, and other brands in the food, drinks, cosmetics and cleaning industries. ALPLA employs 20,900 employees at 181 locations across 46 countries.
Jodok Schäffler, the General Manager of ALPLA North America, wanted to operate the production line with more efficiency and less latency. Besides, he wanted to find a way to speed up the employee training process. It was the time to build a new system. The result of ALPLA’s search for a new technology was a proof of concept built by Crate.io. Crate.io's solution, based on CrateDB, was able to handle huge amounts of real-time data in a multi-plant environment. It also required significantly less resources than all the other solutions ALPA looked at, and it was 10 X cheaper.

“By collecting and analyzing sensor data from all our factory equipment in real time, we can actually direct people on the floor to the ‘hot spots’ and with that, improve the waste rate and efficiency of production.” - Jodok Schaeffler
