Spend any time online and you’ll know that AI is quickly becoming completely unavoidable.
Google’s AI Overviews already pop up on the majority of question based Google searches. AI overviews are placed at the top of the search results page above human-written results providing a quick summary.
Google claims that AI Overviews are used by over a billion users and they are gearing up to upgrade their AI offerings.
Some think this demonstrates evidence for dead internet theory, the concept that a lot of the internet has become bots and artificial intelligences talking to each other, rather than authentic human driven content.
Though we are a few steps away from artificial general intelligence, the proliferation of AI across all aspects of human life can be a worrying concept.
But others are not so hesitant, ready to fully embrace artificial intelligence and make their own lives, and online searches, easier.
So what is different about Google’s latest announcement of their new AI mode? We’ve got you covered with this comprehensive guide to Google’s new AI Mode.
What is Google AI Mode?
Google AI Mode is a new experimental feature within search that will help to answer more complicated questions.
Google says it will offer users more advanced reasoning, thinking and multimodal capabilities.
The tech company envisions the new AI mode will be used to ask more nuanced questions , including comparisons, that would have previously required multiple searches to find answers. This also includes an AI-powered library of links to learn more.
AI mode will exist within typical Search functions. Alongside the usual search results users will be able to access real-time sources including Knowledge Graph,.
By utilising a ‘query fan-out’ approach, AI mode will simultaneously conduct multiple searches across different data sources and then combine them into a simplified, easy to understand response.
How to Use Google AI Mode?
Google reports that their first wave of Trusted Testers have found AI mode particularly helpful in terms of speed, quality and freshness of responses.
The next phase of testing has now commenced if you’d like to try out Google AI Mode for yourself there is a limited availability, opt-in experience in Labs.
Using Google AI Mode is currently available to Google One AI Premium subscribers.
