More than 170 exhibitors take to the show floor – double the show’s previous record
Big Data LDN, Olympia London, 0900 22 September 2022: One of the most talked about trends in data, the Data Mesh concept, took centre stage in the opening keynote from Zhamak Dehghani, on the first day of Big Data LDN (London) 2022 – the UK’s leading data and analytics event.
In her talk, Rewire for Data Mesh: atomic steps to rewire the sociotechnical backbone of your organisation, Zhamak guided the audience through the history of the approach, founded in 2018, and how to apply it to get value from data rapidly, sustainably and at scale.
Visitors were able to further build their capabilities by attending the Keynote Panel Debate on Data Mesh – What You Need to Know, which featured experts from Roche, Thoughtspot and Eckerson Group tackling the topic of why Data Mesh has gone mainstream, what businesses need to know before starting a project, and the potential benefits of adoption.
The specialist, Data Mesh Theatre, experienced substantial footfall, with delegates able to learn from experts from organisations including Zalando, Starburst, Snowflake, Deloitte, Lloyds Banking Group, Databricks and the Royal Air Force on topics ranging from real world case studies to data governance and selecting the right technologies.
Also popular in the Big Data LDN Keynote Theatre were talks from Parkdean Resorts on Turning Data into Valuable Insights and Action, VTTI on Driving Energy Transition with Data and Technology, and the Fireside Chat with NatWest: Inside their Data & Analytics Machine.
Many of the presentations in the other conference theatres also enjoyed full houses, including Andrew McHutchon, Senior Data Scientist with McLaren Racing, who revealed how the team uses data to accelerate performance in his talk in the AI and MLOPS Theatre. The 11 specialist seminar stages featured a stellar cast of experts from high-profile and blue chip brands – including Brewdog, Sellafield, Deloitte, Microsoft, Co-op, Whirlpool, EVRI, Huel, AWS, Google, Philips, Depop, Deliveroo, Warner Records, Confused.com, Monzo, PepsiCo, Media O2, BlaBlaCar, Thames Water, Capita, Maersk, and Admiral.
Bill Hammond, Big Data LDN’s Event Director, says: “When the doors opened this morning, we could feel the ‘buzz’ right from the word go, with professionals from every corner of the data community pleased to be back together in person. It’s clear that a colossal amount of work has been undertaken across the sector since we last met, and everyone is keen to share and discover the new ideas, solutions and perspectives that have taken shape. We can’t wait for Day Two.”
Exhibitors at Big Data LDN today shared innovative product announcements including:
- Starburst Data (Stand 414), which announced enhanced functionality for building and sharing data products built on global datasets. The new functionality is supported by Starburst Stargate, which allows customers to link catalogues and data sources across geographies, while ensuring access controls are in place and data residency requirements are honoured.
- Mobius Knowledge Services (755), which introduced XDAS, which helps businesses manage data end-to-end from sourcing to advanced analytics.
- Bitfount (838) announced its new open beta product, a distributed data science platform that allows data custodians and data scientists to collaborate in performing privacy-preserving data analysis and ML without transferring or revealing raw data.
