honeywell partners with google cloud to develop gen ai for industrial data operations

Google Cloud, Google’s computing service partners with Honeywell, a global industrial conglomerate to develop generative artificial intelligence (gen AI) that optimises data.

The American companies plan to launch gen AI solutions that allow users to deploy AI agents to make data operations more efficient.

This move possibly comes after labour shortages across different industries have been observed.

Exploding Topics reported that the US labour shortage sits at 70% which is 5% points below the global average in 2024. That means that 7 in 10 employers are unable to find suitable employees for their job vacancies.

The gen AI solutions strive to boost safer yet more efficient autonomous operations for the industrial sector by offering AI-driven tools.

These AI tools will automate tasks for professionals such as engineers, warehouse workers, and technicians.

The first solutions built with Google Cloud AI will be available to Honeywell's customers in 2025.

Gemini AI capabilities to unleash data opportunities

Honeywell and Google Cloud plan to combine Geminis’ multimodality and natural language capabilities on Vertex AI with Honeywell Forge’s huge data set on its IoT platform.

Vertex AI is Google’s machine learning (ML) platform that allows users to train and deploy ML models and AI applications, and customise large language models (LLMs) for AI applications.

Honeywell in an official statement said that the new gen AI will “unleash easy-to-understand, enterprise-wide insights across a multitude of use cases.”

They also aim to help clients find opportunities to minimise maintenance costs, increase operational productivity and upskill employees.

Vimal Kapur, Chairman and CEO of Honeywell stated that the road to autonomy requires assets working harder, people working smarter and processes working more efficiently.

"By combining Google Cloud's AI technology with our deep domain expertise--including valuable data on our Honeywell Forge platform--customers will receive unparalleled, actionable insights bridging the physical and digital worlds to accelerate autonomous operations, a key driver of Honeywell's growth," he added.

Finding untapped potentials faster

Overall, Honeywell collaborated with Google Cloud to automate industrial insights by leveraging Gemini and Vertex AI capabilities for Honeywell’s large data sets.

This will help Honeywell look for possibly missed opportunities, ultimately boosting industrial operations and increasing efficiency.

"Our partnership with Honeywell represents a significant step forward in bringing the transformative power of AI to industrial operations," stated Thomas Kurian, CEO of Google Cloud.

"With Gemini on Vertex AI, combined with Honeywell's industrial data and expertise, we're creating new opportunities to optimise processes, empower workforces and drive meaningful business outcomes for industrial organisations worldwide."

Organisations worldwide are leveraging generative AI to enhance industrial operations. For instance, tech giant Amazon, known for both retail and cloud services, is integrating generative AI into its services.

In its latest AI move, last month, Amazon introduced in beta a new generative AI-powered personal assistant for sellers, codenamed Project Amelia.

Project Amelia provides sellers with an all-in-one, generative AI-based selling expert who is always available to immediately answer sellers with advice, and provide tools they need to succeed.

Amazon stated that Project Amelia is an always-available, expert partner to sellers, learning their unique businesses so it can offer personalised insights and support, and available from any page within Seller Central, at any time.
