From art events to cross-continental conferences, if there is one thing that remote-working has worked as a catalyst for it is VR/AR collaboration platforms. Of course, we have all been subject to the "have-you-got-your-cameras-on" and "we-can't-hear-you"s in our standard communication tools such as Zoom and 8x8, but the world of visual/augmented reality has opened up a new realm of possibilities for online collaboration. We have heard about some of the big players in the industry such as Mozilla Hubs, but we want to focus on some of the startups; to shine a light on some of the promising up-and-comers that are empowering online collaboration.

The Wild

The Wild is a collaboration platform for teams to experience their work together, from anywhere, in virtual and augmented reality. The Wilds immersive remote collaboration platform uses virtual and augmented reality to enable AEC, design, and enterprise teams to save time and make better decisions by experiencing their work together, immersed in a shared virtual space.

With native support for SketchUp and Revit, The Wild aims to shape the future of collaboration by connecting people and their ideas across distance into a shared experience. With their main areas of Design, Enterprise, and Architecture they offer up important tools like easy import, cross platform usage, multi-user, component interaction, and native sketching, link sharing and annotation tools.

Spatial

Spatial believes we can accomplish anything if we have the right tools and each other. However, they feel that current tools aren't designed for how we naturally think and how our coworkers could be anywhere in the world. They want spatial to break through these limitations and transform work to how it should be. With Spatial you can create a lifelike avatar and work as if you're right next to your coworker halfway around the world. It is compatible with all your existing tools so the workflow remains intact and you can use any device from VR/AR headsets, desktop laptop, or even your phone.

Glue

Glue is a collaboration platform for teams who need remote meetings to be as great as face-to-face meetings. Glue brings remote teams together to learn, share, plan and create. Combining the best in immersive 3D graphics, virtual reality and cloud computing technology, Glue empowers teams everywhere to maximise their collaborative potential. 3D avatars reflect the movement and gestures of their users, providing non-verbal communication in addition to voice, while spatial audio gives you a natural understanding of where they are around you. Glue’s toolkit includes post-it notes, whiteboards and freehand 3D drawings enabling users to express and share their ideas in-session with ease.

MeetinVR

MeetinVR takes long-distance collaboration to the next level through Virtual Reality. Companies are now able to have professional meetings in virtual environments at any time, from anywhere. Maximizing the capabilities of VR, MeetinVR combines the flexibility of online meetings with the interactivity of in-person meetings, enabling people to get together in fully customizable virtual workspaces where they can talk, interact, and feel as if they are sharing the same space. Users will be able to share and review media together and will have access to tools to enhance creative collaboration, making it easier than ever for companies to brainstorm, sketch and prototype ideas together.

Cavrnus

Cavrnus Spaces is a completely 3D platform for training and education, operations, planning and engineering, and sales. The software enables customers to build and share immersive and interactive 3D environments such as virtual conference rooms, virtual workshops, virtual stores, virtual classrooms and any other reproduction of a 3D space real or imagined. Cavrnus Spaces features include multi-user co-presence across any device, workspace persistence, and the ability to export materials changes made to 3D objects. Plus, participants can export annotations made on 3D objects, whiteboards, video boards, image boards, pdf boards and stream boards
